Usage of IVR services in Lockdown

When the whole world is going through the experiment of Work from Home, one of the major beneficiaries is the Telecom sector. The amount of data consumed during this lockdown has increased up to 30%. This means that most of the businesses taking online route to reach out to their customers, that too with limited staff. Customers and users who were not accustomed to the usage of devices and their operations are finding it difficult to cop up. Here, in combination with Online services, Interactive Voice Response (IVR) services can come hand to register the complaints, provide a road map to deal with difficulties and reply to people’s queries in a scheduled way. Usage of IVR services can not be limited to Education, Health Care, Food & Beverage and Financial Services, Government can also use it to gain feedback and to improvise their supply chain. Future of Cloud Telephony

With exponential development in technology every year, disruption in every sector and evolution of IOT(Internet of Things), many might have a question – What would the future of cloud Telephony be?

If we imagine our near future, might be 5 years or less, AI based cloud telephony would become efficient enough to talk to customers and resolve their queries. You would not need to use keypad to push 1 or 2, the IVR would understand your speech and would reply to you in human language.

For Example: If you call a company the IVR would ask you to speak your problem. If you say, just for an example, payment not received, it would tell you the reason of delay and the date when it would be released.

Moving further into the future, say 6 to 10 years, when the concept of IOT would not be limited to a few experts only. IOT might transform the way we see cloud telephony today. The basic idea behind IOT, in layman terms, is to connect smart devices with each other and to the internet. To make it little clearer, earlier we had mobile phones which are made smart now, by connecting them to the internet, we have connected computers to the internet too. Now we have, what we call smart watches and smart T.V.

Think of a scenario, in future obviously, when your TV has internet access and you see an advertisement on the screen, with a click to call icon. With the TV remote you click that icon and you are connected to the organization or call attendant with the help of your television, now you can talk and get your query resolved. This is what the future of cloud telephony can be.

Is Work from home better or Are we not prepared for it?

This lockdown has made everyone to opt work from home to run their businesses and organisations. Many are advising to transform the way we look at running businesses by opting for work from home post lock down. But the question is - Is work from home that effective? According to me, Work from home can be a complimentary tool not a substitute. Every team work requires brainstorming and discussions which are productive if teams sit together rather than working from their homes and discussing over any video conferencing tool. Exchange of information is better when employees work in a common workspace. While working from homes the exchange of information becomes non uniform, teams of different departments, for example, would have information related to their department only and this increases with the size of organisation – the bigger the organisation more will be the non-uniformity. Working in an office reduces the time involved in resolving doubts that any team member or team may have re...

How Leader can Ensure Productivity when Working from Home

Working from home, as discussed earlier can have several limitations. We cannot expect everyone to be equally efficient while working from remote places. So, here are some additional tips to maintain productivity while working from home. Leader must ensure, setting up expectations for every employee from the start itself by outlining daily expectations and weekly tasks, despite the initiative capabilities of any employee. It’s a leader’s responsibility to keep employees with unequal capabilities on same page. A leader, to bring out max from every employee, can ask or motivate employees to work in their high productivity hours. Secondly, every employee has different capabilities to perceive, so leader must ensure to use the most appropriate mode of communication while dealing with employees, Example: If some employees are quick enough to comprehend the ideas, they can be communicated over a call and for others video conference can be used. But while doing this leader must not try to mic...
